Coral Calcium and The Reef

The miraculous chains of life events on coral reefs are highly complex. The basic photosynthetic organisms and plant life provide food for herbivorous (vegetarian) inhabitants such as damsel fish, parrot fish, blennies and puffer fish.

The parrot fish plays a unique role in the biomass of reefs. They use their strong teeth to chew away coral, which is ground in their digestive tract and released to form the ground-up, sandy bases of the reef. In fact, parrot fish and similar “coral munchers” are a prime source of marine coral that is harvested as coral calcium.

The reef has many species that sleep by night and play by day or vice versa. The coral reef has a fascinating bio-rhythm with an interplay of thousands of species of fish, worms, sponges, fungi and transient visitors.

The recognition of the diversity life forces to which coral is exposed makes it easier to understand how difficult it may be to define all of the nutrient benefits that may come from coral. There is a lot we do not know about the dynamics of life surrounding coral.

Coral Calcium has great benefits, consider the best, Bobs Best Coral Calcium 2000.

Coral reefs are sea mountains of minerals which calcium carbonate predominates, along with numerous other inorganic and organic forms of calcium. Calcium is a biological glue and an inorganic building block that is ubiquitous on the planet earth. In order to build a reef, the living coral polyps require specific climatic and ecological conditions. Indeed, coral reefs are most preponderant in warm waters of the ocean which have a range of temperature from 20 degrees C to 30 degrees C, approximately.

Without sunlight the living infrastructure of organisms on the reef that use photosynthesis for nutrition cannot survive. These photosynthetic organisms (zooanthellae-algae) are quite primitive, but efficient in forming a basic nutrient source for the food chain of the reef dwellers. Some marine organisms rely heavily on the photosynthesizing organisms. For example, coral reef sponges obtain the bulk of their nutrients from these organisms and some species of jellyfish harbor photosynthesizes in their tentacles.

Of the vast number of species of coral, two distinct, basic types are recognized. These are the reef-building stony corals and the more delicate soft corals that have an inner skeleton. Not all corals from aggregations into colonies and many soft corals live among the stony corals.

The most interesting aspect of coral is their different and versatile ability to reproduce. They can reproduce by budding in an asexual manner and many polyps can form with remaining connections to its forerunner. Once a year, the corals may spawn filling areas of the reef with massive amounts of eggs and sperm (the reefs are submerged in a cloud if sperm and eggs) which attract plankton eating fish and mammals.

Oceanographers refer to several distinct types of coral reef. The coral reefs in Okinawa are associated with dormant underwater volcanoes and they tend to grow outwards to maintain their submersion in the seas. Fringing reefs are found in the Caribbean and the Great Barrier Reef and related grow along coastal plains which are raised from the seabed. Reefs can grow with amazing variations in architecture that is shaped by the geological circumstances and climate of the ocean.

Are You Experiencing Low Energy?
Feeling Anxious or Depressed?
Forgetting Things?
You’re Low on Vitamin B12!

An estimated 46 million Americans are deficient . . .
The standard blood test for B12 is inaccurate . . .
And many low quality B12 supplements don’t work . . .

How can one vitamin be so important? Because vitamin B12 is vital to the energy production of virtually every cell in your body . . .

It also works with dozens of important enzymes for a whole host of biochemical processes that are essential to good health.

So if you’re vitamin B12 deficient — and millions of Americans are — you’re going to develop unpleasant symptoms, and even serious health problems.

The standard blood test for vitamin B12 is wildly inaccurate. People are being told they’re fine, when in fact they’re deficient.

That means the cause of your symptoms is either not being treated, or it’s being mistreated.

Vitamin B12 deficiency is very common in people over age 40 because of our nutrient-starved modern diet, reliance on harsh drugs, and overuse of antacids.

We have great news for you today!

Bob’s incredible supplement Bob’s Best Coral Calcium 2000 has been recently upgraded to provide even more of the essential high quality vitamin b12 benefits that you so desperately need.

Just one more benefit that Bob provides in his amazing high quality supplement Coral Calcium 2000. High quality, highly absorbable and effective Vitamin B12!

Coral Calcium Types – An Explanation

It is important to recognize that two broad, but distinct types of coral calcium, are used as health giving supplements by the Japanese and many people throughout the world.

The first type is fossilized coral calcium that has been deposited on the land mass, or washed up on the beaches. The second type is taken directly from the sea bed. The sea-bed coral calcium is the coral that has dropped from the reef or is processed by reef inhabitants. This type of “coral sand” has been washed to the ocean floor by wave actions. Marine coral calcium is closer in composition to the living forms of corals, because the marine microbes are still active and many minerals and organic elements are retained, in comparison to fossilized, land-based coral.

These are important differences in composition between fossilized (land-based) and marine (sea-bed) coral calcium. Marine coral calcium contains more magnesium, and the balance of calcium (24%) to magnesium (12%) content of this second type of marine coral is close to 2:1. This 2 to 1 ratio is the ideal ratio for calcium and magnesium intake in the human diet.

My research has led me to believe strongly that the natural, magnesium enriched, marine coral calcium is to be strongly preferred as a health giving supplement over land based (fossilized coral), which contains less than 1% magnesium. This superiority of the marine coral is due to its retained, ideal, ionic balance of calcium and magnesium in a 2:1 ratio, and the fact that for the fossilized type, a host of other nutrients were also washed out during weathering processes.

Corals belong to the phylum (group) of marine organisms called Cnidaria (Coelenterata) which also includes jellyfish, sea anemones and hydroids. These organisms tend to be symmetrical with digestive tract that has one single opening. They process a “nematocyst” or stinging apparatus which contains and protects the coral polyp with venom of varying potency.

The stony corals are named because they secrete a supporting exoskeleton (outside hard structure). This stony covering contains the soft structures of the living coral polyps. These living corals form reefs which support a large biomass. In tropical waters and some temperate zones theses corals proliferate to a vast degree that builds islands.

A classic example of this geographical phenomenon is the infrastructure of the islands chains in and around Okinawa, Japan.

Coral calcium is derived from reef-building coral and it is harvested from the pristine waters off the Nansei Islands (Rukuyuku and Satsunan), Japan. These islands spread towards the south east from the southern tip of Japan’s main land mass towards Taiwan. Using careful, harvesting techniques that are sustaining for the environment, several companies collect and process coral calcium for use as a food supplement. The Japanese government supervises this collection process and they provide special certification to certain types of coral.

Under a microscope, coral appears as tubes, horns and honey combs. It has the appearance of an abandoned city. Coral calcium has been officially recognized by the Japanese government as a valuable food supplement. This official standing was registered by Japan in July 1989, but the coral sands have enjoyed thousands of years of local use as an important source of health giving nutrients in the diet of Okinawans.

It was discovered by the early Spanish explorers, 500 years ago, who filled their ship holds with the coral sands. The chemists in Spain, attempting to discover the reason for its miraculous curative properties, discovered that the main ingredient was calcium, so they renamed it “coral calcium.” Today, tens of millions of people around the world consume coral calcium daily.

So, join us, one of the millions who use Coral Calcium to supplement our diets with essential minerals and nutrients only nature could provide.

The sea contains a massive expanse of life which it supports by its content of “free-floating” minerals and bio-active, nutritional compounds. Water provides an ideal communication pathway for messenger molecules of life. There are free floating hormones in some areas of the sea that are elaborated by certain marine organisms. These ecto-hormones (ecto means “from outside”) can be taken up by various other plants or life-forms in the ocean and cause many biological chain reactions that support the diverse array of marine inhabitants.

The chemical balance in the oceans supports life in complex ways. Therefore, one cannot be surprised by scientific reports that many marine life forms and their environmental waters or habitants, such as coral reefs, produce substances that have potent and versatile biological actions in nature. Marine compounds of various types have been found to be antifungal, antibiotic, anticancer, antiviral, growth inhibiting, analgesic, cardio-stimulatory (or inhibitory) and antangiogenic in their actions.

To add to our appreciation of the health secrets that the oceans contain is the recognition that four fifths of all life on our planet (about one half million species) lives in water. Massive amounts of suspended organic matter are incorporated into the food chain of marine organisms. Furthermore, marine organisms, such as living corals or mussels, process or expose their life cycle to thousands of tons of water. In one estimate, a small colony of mussels (ten million) can process one square mile of sea water that is 25’deep. As “big fish eats little fish” or marine organisms are used in complex food chains, the permutations of transfer of active molecules become limitless. Humankind joins this complex harmony of planetary life when it harvests the offerings of the oceans.

Scientists may have tended to underestimate the importance of the oceans in sustaining life on our planet. The complex and varied composition of the oceans of the world make them home to more living organisms than the land. Water forms an ideal medium to contain all the inorganic material that are essential for the development and sustenance of life forms. The “vitality factors” contained within oceans, rivers, and land locked collections of water are the most important component of the food chain of all plant and animal life. The healing properties of sea water have been recognized by every culture for thousands of years. In some circumstances “treated sea water” has been used as medicine with variable benefit. In wartime, it was successfully used in lieu of blood for transfusions.

About 80% (four fifths) of the total animal life on the planet exists in the seas. Plant life is also abundant and seaweeds (especially kemp) are among the fastest growing most prolific plants on earth. The biomasses vary in density throughout the ocean. The deepest parts of the ocean supports life forms about which we know very little. The concept of “biomass” is important in oceanographic studies and it refers to the amount of living matter found per unit area of the sea. Underwater sea forests of kelp and coral reefs are rich biomasses that support a high concentration of living organisms. Coral reefs grow over thousands of years and mature into rich ecology where nutrients and elements are concentrated. If the oceans are considered a soup of life, the underwater forests, the coral reefs and the sea beds are the dumplings in the soup. These “dumplings” are huge “vitalistic” aggregations.

Whilst we are exploring the landmass of the earth, the oceans hold many secrets that are relatively inaccessible. This under- explored frontier of waters of the worlds surface has a volume of 42 million billion cubic ft or 286 million cubic miles. This calculates out to be 460,000,000,000 ounces of gold or over 100 times the gold held in the world’s vaults. Thus, the oceans are an enormous collection of metals, minerals, and chemical substances that sustain life. The seas contain many factors that are produced by its own living organisms.

An analysis of sea water shows variable results depending on the site of collection. However, it contains a striking array of organic compounds derived from plant and animal life. These compounds include organic acids, sterols, carotenoids, various free enzymes and variable amounts of macro and micronutrients (fats, carbohydrates, and proteins). Aggregations of life forms in the oceans, such as coral reefs, concentrate these complex compounds. It is easy to appreciate that the coral reefs are composed of, or exposed to, all nutrient classes known to man.

The sea rich in salt (sodium chloride) and every natural element known to man is present at one or other location. The contents of the sea are determined to a major degree by its residents, but oceans have many citizens who live in different geographical locations with distinct climates. Thus diverse ecology in the sea mirrors the diversity of life that is encountered on landmasses of the earth.

Clues on Longevity, Health and Minerals

My personal odyssey to define the link between minerals and health was reinforced by knowledge that certain geographical locations in the world had inhabitants who were strangers to illness and lived to a ripe, old age. Among these longevous people are Abkasians from Georgia, the Hunzas of Pakistan, the Bamas of China, the Vilcabambas of Ecuador, and certain Azerbaijans.

These small populations seem to share a common factor that they live at high altitude. Living at high elevation presents an ecology where melting glacial water has an abundant mineral content, for example each quart of Hunza water contains about 20,000 milligrams of calcium, and these people drink several quarts each day. I believe that the common denominator in this group is that their diet is high in mineral nutrients that are derived from melting glaciers and snow. Many other scientists, such as Dr. Joe Wallach, have proposed this mineral factor is longevity.

This association between abundant mineral intake and health is supported by the finding that sea level populations with health and longevity, such as Okinawan’s in Japan, have a similar abundance of minerals in their diet. In the case of Okinawans the source is the offerings of the coral reefs around the Rukuyuku islands. These reefs provide mineral enrichment to the water supply and coral is often taken as a supplement in the diet. Again, one could claim an “interesting” coincidence, but after a while the many coincidences start to imply proof of cause and effect.

Whilst minerals may not be the whole story of health and longevity. I believe that they are much more important than has been previously supposed. There has been a tendency in modern medicine to reject remedies of natural origin, such as coral, that have centuries of precedence of successful use. The pendulum is now swinging in the opposite direction as pluralistic medicine emerges and we move back to basics in applying optimum lifestyle and nutrition for health. Coral Calcium serves as a historical example of a natural agent from the ancient seas which holds great power for health and well-being.

Medical researcher and expert Bob Barefoot shares Health Tips for Actors – from the cancer preventative perspective. Here’s a list that we can use on a daily basis:

1) Calcium (coral calcium to be exact) and Vitamin D are two of the most important tools to put into your tool box. We can go down the list from there…

2) Get some Sun – one of the most important things you can do is get your Vitamin D the natural way…

African Americans, Hispanics and Native Americans should be especially vigilant to ensure that they are getting a greater exposure to the sun than others. It just takes longer to get the proper amount of absorption due to the melanin in the skin.

3) Eat properly – for example here is a short list of Anticancer Foods that are grouped in different categories under:

Proteins you have fish, shellfish (selenium, Vitamin D, and long chain omega-3) especially salmon, mackerel, whole anchovies, sardines, eel, cod liver, and occasionally white albacore tuna (canned in water)

Vegatable proteins – lentils, peas, beans, chickpeas, mung beans.

Grains and Carbohydrates you have multigrain or sourdough bread, whole grain rice (or basmatic or Thai rice), quinoa bulgur, oatmeal, muesli, All-Bran, sweet potatoes, or yams.

Fats you have olive oil, flaxseed oil, cod liver oil (Vitamin D), canola oil.

Vegetables you have cabbages, brussel sprouts, bok choy, Chinese cabbage, beta-carotene-rich vegetables – carrots, sweet potatoes, yams, squash, pumpkins, beets, tomatoes, spinach, and mushrooms (Shitake, maitake, enoki, portobello.

Herbs and Spices you have tumeric, curry, marjoram, oregano, parsley and celery cinnamon and ginger.

Probiotics – organic yogurt and kefir, sauerkraut and kimchee.

Prebiotics – garlic, onions, tomatoes, asparagus, bananas and wheat and Seaweed – Nori kombu, wakame, arame.

Fruits – berries of all shapes and sizes and cherries and citrus fruit and persimmons and apricots Dried fruits – Walnuts and hazelnuts pecans and almonds.

Desserts – Dark Chocolate – more than 70% cocoa And for drinks Red wine, filtered water, all green teas and gingerroot infusion

4) Get some exercise and

5) Get some rest

6) Get help as soon as you need it….don’t hesitate see your doctor and clear your mind.
